DUET Chhatra Dal Expels Three Leaders for Organizational Violations

Three leaders, including the president of the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) unit of Chhatra Dal, have been permanently expelled from the organization. This decision was officially announced in a press release issued on Monday (March 3) by Md. Jahangir Alam, Office Secretary of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing).
According to the press release, "As per the decision of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, former convener of the DUET unit Sohag Sardar, former member secretary Fazle Rabbi Khan, and student leader Md. Ashraful Haque have been permanently expelled from all organizational positions, including their primary membership, on specific charges of violating organizational discipline."
The statement further mentioned that Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir approved this decision. Additionally, "All leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal have been instructed not to maintain any organizational ties with them."
Previously, following the historic mass uprising on August 5 that led to the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina’s government, student protests erupted across various campuses, demanding a ban on student politics. In line with this movement, students at DUET also demanded a ban on all forms of student politics, leading to the university authorities officially prohibiting student politics on September 4 of that year.
Sources indicate that some of the students who had actively participated in the protests against student politics were later appointed to the newly announced DUET Chhatra Dal committee. Notably, both the newly appointed president and general secretary had been at the forefront of the protests. During one such demonstration, a student was seen chanting slogans in favor of student politics while standing beside Chhatra Dal’s president and general secretary.
On Saturday (March 1), Chhatra Dal’s Central President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir issued a notice, announcing a 28-member partial committee for the DUET unit. However, following the immediate resignation of 15 committee members, the committee was suspended shortly thereafter.
