Prime Minister Advocates Energy Savings at Secretariat Offices
To promote energy-efficient practices, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has personally reduced the lighting and air conditioning levels by half in his Secretariat office. At the same time, he has advised all ministries and institutions to minimize electricity use by relying on natural sunlight during the day, instead of switching on electric lights.
The information was shared on Thursday morning, March 5, by the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
He stated that the Prime Minister arrived at his Secretariat office at 9:10 am. Upon entering, he switched off 50 percent of the lights in his office and adjusted the air conditioning to 25.1 percent, a level that reduces electricity consumption.
Ruman added that, in the Cabinet Room, the Prime Minister instructed that half of the lights be turned off and the air conditioning adjusted during Cabinet meetings as well.
The Prime Minister’s office is located in Building 1 of the Secretariat, which houses the Cabinet Division along with several departments under the Prime Minister’s authority.
Following this personal initiative, all offices within the Prime Minister’s Secretariat immediately implemented the same measures—half the lights switched off and air conditioning reduced.
Ruman further mentioned that the Prime Minister has called on all ministries, government offices, courts, private buildings, shopping malls, and commercial centers nationwide to adopt energy-saving practices. He emphasized using fewer lights during daytime and making use of sunlight by opening office or home windows.
In addition, during today’s Cabinet meeting, Minister of Power and Energy Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku received special guidance from the Prime Minister on electricity conservation. The Prime Minister advised on further steps that could be implemented through expert teams to enhance energy efficiency.
