To facilitate smooth travel for people returning home ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has extended the holiday period by one additional day. March 18 will be observed as a public holiday by executive order. As a result, the Eid holidays will run from March 17 to March 23. Among these, March 17 marks the holiday for Shab-e-Qadr, while March 18 has been declared a holiday through an executive order.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday morning (March 5), chaired by the Prime Minister.

Following the meeting, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj confirmed the approval of the general holiday to journalists.

It is worth noting that Eid-ul-Fitr may fall on March 21, subject to the sighting of the moon. Based on this probable date, the Ministry of Public Administration had earlier fixed a five-day holiday schedule. Previously, March 17 was already designated as the holiday for Shab-e-Qadr. With March 18 now declared an additional holiday, there will effectively be four days of leave before Eid.

After Eid, March 22 and March 23 have also been designated as holidays by executive order. Consequently, government employees will enjoy a continuous seven-day holiday for Eid.

Following the seven-day Eid break, government offices will remain open on March 24 and March 25. This will be followed by the Independence Day holiday on March 26. After that, March 27 and March 28 fall on the weekly holidays (Friday–Saturday). As a result, government employees will receive another three consecutive days of leave after the Eid holidays.
