Steinberger Shifts to OpenAI, OpenClaw Stays Open Source
Peter Steinberger, founder of the open-source artificial intelligence assistant OpenClaw, is joining OpenAI. In a statement on Sunday, Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman announced that Steinberger will work with the company to advance the next generation of personal assistant technology, according to Reuters.
The report said OpenClaw will remain an open-source project under an independent foundation, which will continue to receive support from OpenAI.
Known for assisting users with everyday tasks such as email management, airline check-ins, and handling insurance-related processes, the assistant quickly gained popularity after its public release last November. Within a short period, it attracted significant support on software repositories and amassed a large user base.
However, alongside its rapid rise in popularity, concerns have emerged regarding potential security risks. China’s Ministry of Industry has warned that improper configuration of the system could expose users to cyberattacks and data breaches.
Steinberger stated that he intends to further expand his initiative while preserving the independence and principles of open-source development.
