Accenture AI Adoption Accelerates Copilot Scale-Up in Landmark Microsoft Deal
Global consulting giant Accenture has announced the rollout of Microsoft’s artificial intelligence assistant “Copilot 365” for all of its 743,000 employees. This marks the largest corporate deployment to date of Microsoft’s chatbot technology for such a vast workforce under a single organization.
In a joint statement released on Monday (27 April), the two companies confirmed the development. However, the financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Why this matters for Microsoft
Microsoft currently has around 450 million Microsoft 365 enterprise users. However, only about 3 percent of customers pay $30 per month to use AI services or Copilot. Despite heavy investment in AI technology, concerns have been raised among investors regarding revenue returns. Microsoft’s share price has fallen by nearly 12 percent this year. In this context, the massive deal with Accenture is being seen as a significant commercial win for the company.
Productivity claims from Accenture
Accenture said it has already conducted a survey involving around 200,000 employees. According to the findings, approximately 97 percent of employees reported that using Copilot has made their routine tasks 15 times faster than before. Meanwhile, 53 percent of employees claimed that their productivity has significantly increased.
Accenture CEO Julie Sweet said, “Our employees are now able to focus more on creative and higher-value work with the help of AI.”
Microsoft’s strategic shift
Market analysts say Microsoft is now reducing its exclusive dependence on OpenAI and is also offering other AI models, such as Anthropic, to its customers. On Monday, it was also reported that Microsoft’s exclusive partnership with OpenAI has ended. As a result, the ChatGPT developer can now sell its technology to competing cloud platforms.
Accenture’s large-scale adoption comes at a time when some recent studies suggest that artificial intelligence has not yet significantly improved general workforce productivity. However, Accenture’s move is expected to challenge that perception.
