Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, Azure, suffered a sudden outage on Wednesday afternoon (U.S. time), disrupting several of the company’s key online services. The tech giant acknowledged the issue on its official status page, according to a report by TechCrunch.

Microsoft stated, “The issue likely resulted from an unintended configuration change.” However, the company has not yet provided a timeline for when services are expected to return to normal.

The outage not only affected Azure but also disrupted multiple connected services, including Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft. Major corporate websites such as Costco and Starbucks also experienced downtime as a result of the failure.

The disruption occurred just as Microsoft was preparing to announce its quarterly earnings later on Wednesday afternoon.

This incident follows a similar outage last week when Amazon’s cloud platform, AWS, went offline, causing widespread service interruptions across banks, websites, and certain government systems.
