Google Photos is introducing a new Video Remix feature that enables users to edit and transform videos within seconds. Google officially announced the feature on Wednesday, saying it is powered by its newly released Gemini Omni AI model, which is capable of generating new content from virtually any type of input.

As competition intensifies with rivals such as Apple, OpenAI and Adobe, Google continues to integrate generative AI capabilities across its consumer applications. By bringing advanced video editing directly into Google Photos, the company aims to let users create polished videos with just a few taps, without requiring professional editing skills or dedicated software.

How Video Remix Works

The Video Remix tool will be available under the Create tab in the Google Photos app. It offers several AI-powered editing options, including:

Users can enhance dim or poorly lit clips with cinematic lighting effects, such as adding a soft morning glow to create a brighter and more visually appealing scene.

The tool also allows users to replace dull or ordinary backgrounds with entirely new environments, such as making a video appear as though it was filmed inside a greenhouse.

In addition, users can apply a variety of artistic styles, including watercolor, rough sketchbook and oil painting effects, giving videos a distinctive creative look.

In a blog post, Google said, "Creating beautiful video clips no longer requires professional skills or hours of editing. With the Video Remix tool in Google Photos, ordinary videos can now be transformed into stunning, social media-ready moments in just a few taps."

Availability

The Video Remix feature began rolling out on Wednesday to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers in selected countries. The initial rollout includes Bangladesh, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Türkiye.

Video Remix is the latest addition to Google Photos' growing collection of AI-powered features. The app previously introduced automatic touch-up tools capable of removing facial blemishes, improving skin texture, brightening eyes and whitening teeth. Google has also added a digital wardrobe feature that uses AI to create a virtual closet from clothing photos, allowing users to virtually try on outfits from home.
