Since the launch of Memories in 2016, Snapchat users have already saved more than one trillion moments. Unlike camera roll duplicates or unnecessary screenshots, Snapchat Memories preserve moments that matter most to users.

Initially, the scale of Memories was not anticipated. To ensure long-term safety for users’ stored content, Snapchat is introducing new Memories storage plans, according to The Verge.

For users with less than 5 gigabytes of Memories, nothing will change. However, those with more than 5 gigabytes—meaning thousands of saved Snaps—will now have access to expanded storage plans. The initial offerings include 100 gigabytes, 250 gigabytes (for Snapchat+ subscribers), and 5 terabytes under the new Snapchat Platinum tier.

Snapchat will provide users with over 5 gigabytes of Memories a temporary storage extension for 12 months. During this period, users can upgrade to one of the new paid storage plans at any time. Alternatively, they may choose to download their Memories directly to their own devices.

The company acknowledged, “It’s never easy to move from a free service to a paid one, but this change is essential to safeguard users’ precious moments and provide an enhanced experience.” Snapchat added that the initiative reflects its commitment to making Memories even better for the entire community.
