Bright Bangladeshi Beginners Bound for IMSO 2025

Twelve young Bangladeshi students are set to participate in the 22nd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO), to be held in Kedah, Malaysia, from October 5 to 9. The Bangladeshi contingent will leave for Kedah on October 4 to join nearly 400 primary-level students from 23 countries.

The announcement was made at a press conference on Tuesday, September 30, at 4 p.m. at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka. The event was jointly organized by the Society for the Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB), and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), the national organizers of the Olympiad. SPSB and BdOSN President Munir Hasan introduced the 12 members of the team to journalists, noting that the group comprises six students in mathematics and six in science.

The mathematics team members are:

  • Md. Nabi Hossain, Orijit Saha, and Ihan Abrad Rahman from Grade 5, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School

  • Wafia Hasan Athoi from SFX Greenherald International School

  • Labiba Binte Fazle Rabbi from Mastermind English Medium School

  • Rafsan Shafik Talukdar from Grade 5, Bonowari Lal Government High School, Sirajganj

The science team members are:

  • Syed Ayan Isa, Grade 5, Lighthouse International School

  • Abhigyan Roy Golpo, Grade 5, SFX Greenherald International School

  • Tahmid Hasan, Grade 5, Manarat Dhaka International School and College

  • Akib Fattah Mustafi, Grade 5, St. Joseph International School

  • Shahabi Ibn Kabya, Grade 5, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School

  • Md. Miftahul Islam, Grade 4, Mymensingh International School

Notably, Md. Nabi Hossain and Syed Ayan Isa secured the highest scores in mathematics and science respectively during the national phase, earning the Champions’ Trophy in their categories.

The team will be led by SPSB Vice-President Zahidul Amin, with Md. Tanvirul Islam serving as deputy leader. Mim Naz Rahman will mentor the science group, while Jyoti Singh will mentor the mathematics group.

Earlier, for the first time in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Mathematics and Science Olympiad (BDMSO) was organized at the primary level. The event took place on August 22 at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School with the participation of over 200 students, out of which 52 were declared winners. Following training camps, six students each were selected for the mathematics and science teams.

The Olympiad was jointly organized by BdOSN and SPSB.
