Desktop Dreams: Android 16 Beta Introduces New Mode for Monitors
The beta version of Android 16 includes Google’s newly developed “Android Desktop Mode,” which allows smartphones to function like desktop computers when connected to a monitor. Android expert Mishaal Rahman tested the feature on a Google Pixel 8 Pro to examine its capabilities, according to The Verge.
In this mode, users can access a taskbar, app drawer, and run applications in windowed mode—features that resemble Samsung’s DeX system. Apps can be easily arranged side by side on the screen, similar to how they appear on Windows PCs.
Although the feature will not be included in the initial release of Android 16, it may be fully integrated in a future update or in Android 17.
