Meta is introducing a new feature to address users’ long-standing frustration with irrelevant posts, misleading AI-generated images and unwanted content cluttering their Facebook feeds.

Through Meta’s new algorithm personalisation tool, users will be able to control more easily what kinds of content they want or do not want to see in their feeds. The customisation options will be accessible through a new “Your Algorithm” menu, available from specific posts or Reels in the feed.

Use of LLM Technology and How It Works

Under the new update, users will be able to add their preferred topics to a dedicated list while placing subjects they dislike on a “Not Interested” list.

They will also be able to use a dedicated text box to describe in their own words the types of content they want to see in their feeds.

After introducing a similar feature on Instagram earlier this year, Meta is now extending the functionality to Facebook.

According to Meta, the use of large language model (LLM) technology, rather than relying solely on conventional signals such as likes and clicks, will make interacting with the algorithm feel more like having a direct conversation with it. In other words, the AI will be able to better understand the underlying intent and context behind users’ written instructions.

User Experience and Expectations

Although technology analysts remain curious about whether the new system will significantly reduce spam and AI-generated content clutter, the feature is expected to help users tailor their social media experience more precisely to their individual preferences.

This major change, which will allow users to customise their Facebook feeds according to their interests, is expected to be rolled out to users worldwide in the near future.
