Addressing ethical tech regulation and press protections, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman assured that journalists' concerns regarding the proposed cyber legislation will be fully considered. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) following an event at the Supreme Court Auditorium, he stated there is no cause for alarm. Framed around modern sci-tech policy and AI ethics, his remarks highlighted the balance between protecting citizens from digital abuse and safeguarding press freedom.

The Law Minister noted that public consultations regarding the cyber law are currently underway, generating diverse feedback across sectors. However, he emphasized that a clear consensus has emerged on the necessity of a regulatory framework to protect citizens from social media harassment and synthetic manipulation driven by artificial intelligence (AI).

Regarding the statutory language, he clarified that suggestions are being received from multiple stakeholders. The government will thoroughly review these inputs before advancing the final draft to Parliament, confirming that the text remains in its preliminary stages.

Addressing journalist safety, the Law Minister reaffirmed that stakeholder concerns will be prioritized. Acknowledging historical grievances surrounding digital laws, he noted that misuse involving former frameworks—such as Section 57 or the Digital Security Act—remains at the forefront of the drafting process to prevent future overreach.

Earlier in 2025, the interim government repealed the Cyber Security Act 2023 and promulgated an ordinance to ensure digital protection. The ordinance was subsequently enacted as the Cyber Protection Act 2026 during the first session of the 13th National Parliament, with plans for further amendments. Aligning with these goals, the government has prepared a revised draft and initiated consultations with international partners and local stakeholders prior to cabinet submission.
