Meta Develops First Humanoid Robot Prototype in Partnership with Chinese Startup Fourier
Technology giant Meta has jointly developed its first prototype humanoid robot with Chinese robotics startup Fourier. According to a report by US-based technology publication The Information, Meta has already completed work on the first version of the robot and is preparing to begin development of a second version soon.
However, international news agency Reuters said it could not immediately independently verify the report.
Technical Features of the Robot
Citing internal sources, the report said the prototype robot, weighing approximately 106 pounds (48 kilograms), has been given the codename ‘Max’. Engineers from Meta and Fourier managed to assemble the robot in just three months of intensive work. The prototype has primarily been built around the core hardware framework developed by the Chinese company Fourier.
Household Services and Artificial Intelligence
These humanoid robots will serve as the physical embodiment of Meta's own ‘Muse’ AI agent, or artificial intelligence system. The ongoing experiments aim to improve the robots' ability to perform everyday household tasks and eventually move the technology beyond the laboratory as a commercial product for the general public.
The device is currently at an early research and experimental stage, and no commercial launch timeline has been announced. However, amid international geopolitical tensions and friction over US-China chip trade, Meta's secret robotics project, with technological assistance from a Chinese company, has sparked fresh discussion.
