Amid administrative and operational turmoil at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam has remained blockaded inside his office building for nearly 24 hours. Having entered the VC building at 12:00 PM on Monday, he remains confined as of Tuesday (October 13, 2026). At around 11:30 AM, medical personnel from the CUET Medical Center were allowed entry into the locked facility, followed by several media representatives monitoring the campus situation.

An onsite inspection inside the building revealed several individuals present, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam confining himself to a separate room alongside a few companions, while others occupied an adjacent room.

Initially reluctant to speak directly with journalists, the Vice-Chancellor later addressed media representatives from his doorway, stating that they were enduring inhuman conditions and had sought assistance from the administration, adding that the nature of their intervention rests with administrative authorities.

Medical Examinations Conducted

After an initial delay in conducting a health checkup, duty physicians temporarily withdrew. However, following the Vice-Chancellor's request for medical evaluation around 1:30 PM, Dr. Md. Sahabuddin from the CUET Medical Center was brought in.

Dr. Md. Sahabuddin reported that he checked the Vice-Chancellor's pulse and blood pressure, finding both within normal parameters. He noted that the VC did not complain of chest pain or request hospital admission.

Later around 2:00 PM, Dr. Tiblu Kanti Dey, Acting Resident Medical Officer at the Raozan Upazila Health Complex, arrived to conduct a secondary examination of the VC's pulse and blood pressure.

When queried about potential chest pain, the Vice-Chancellor informed the physician that he experienced mild chest pain starting at 10:00 AM, which subsequently subsided. He stated that he does not regularly take antihypertensive medications and could not recall the name of his current prescription.

Dr. Tiblu Kanti Dey initially recorded a blood pressure reading of 140/100 mmHg. However, upon exiting the room, he stated to reporters that the reading was 150/100 mmHg, noting the VC's reported chest discomfort.

Discrepancies in Blood Pressure Readings

Following discrepancies in medical observations and health data between the two assessments, students requested a re-examination. Consequently, both Dr. Md. Sahabuddin of CUET Medical Center and Dr. Tiblu Kanti Dey of Raozan Upazila Health Complex re-evaluated the Vice-Chancellor's vital signs.

During the joint re-check, minor variations persisted between the two physicians' measurements. The doctor from Raozan Upazila Health Complex recorded 145/100 mmHg in the VC's right arm, whereas Dr. Sahabuddin measured 139/100 mmHg in the same arm.

For the left arm, the Raozan Health Complex doctor recorded 135/100 mmHg, compared to Dr. Sahabuddin's reading of 130/100 mmHg. According to local sources, the VC building remains restricted, with entry points under blockade as tension persists on campus.
