Highlighting academic rigor, citation influence, and global scientific relevance, 22 faculty members and researchers from the University of Dhaka have been named in the world’s top 2 percent scientists list. Reinforcing its leadership in scientific innovation, Dhaka University also secured the first position among all academic and research institutions in Bangladesh.

On Wednesday (October 7, 2026), the global ranking database was jointly released by Stanford University and Netherlands-based academic publisher Elsevier. The international benchmarking framework evaluates researchers based on standardized metrics including career-long and single-year impact, total citations, H-index, co-authorship-adjusted scientific contribution, and overall research consistency across global scientific disciplines.

The 22 recognized researchers from Dhaka University alongside their global ranks are: Md. Rakibul Hoque (46,104), Abdus Salam (53,503), Md. Mahbubur Rahman (56,255), Taslim Ur Rashid (67,049), Muhammad Ibrahim Shah (67,280), M. Rezaul Islam (84,480), Suborna Barua (94,207), Nepal Chandra Roy (101,746), Md. Kawser Ahmed (112,531), Saikat Mitra (124,290), M. A. B. H. Susan (147,121), Mohammad Mainul Islam (156,670), Mohammed Mizanur Rahman (158,908), Sheikh Md. Mahmudul Islam (198,701), Md. Abdus Salam (206,918), Khandakar Samaher Salem (252,695), Mohammad Ferdous (270,523), Mohammad Abdul Matin (307,131), Md. Abdur Razzaque (350,691), A. S. M. Maksud Kamal (353,299), Md. Abdur Rashid (392,536), and Arka Jyoti Chakraborty (743,834).

Expressing satisfaction over the recognition, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam stated that having 22 researchers in the Stanford-Elsevier global roster reflects institutional pride and affirms the quality and international standing of the university's academic scholarship. He extended congratulations to all recognized scholars for their scientific contributions.

The Vice-Chancellor observed that beyond conventional tertiary education, the university maintains a core focus on pioneering frontier science and applied technology. Faculty members continue to drive peer-reviewed research addressing domestic and transnational challenges, earning sustained international citations and global peer validation.

Dr. Obaidul Islam emphasized that administrative initiatives are underway to expand research infrastructure, broaden foreign academic partnerships, and incentivize young scientists through dedicated grants and laboratory support.
