- Strategic roadmap proposes Bangladesh Tech Center and premier AI Center of Excellence
- Cooperation targets semiconductor testing, advanced manufacturing, and venture capital syndication
Propelling deep-tech scaling, artificial intelligence (AI) engineering, and advanced microelectronics ecosystems, Silicon Valley-based global innovation platform Plug and Play has outlined a strategic pathway to mobilize over USD 500 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) for Bangladesh. Announced in an institutional briefing on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the milestone follows high-level bilateral deliberations held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Plug and Play's global headquarters in Silicon Valley, California. The engagement, coordinated by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Los Angeles, focused on connecting national engineering talent and startup architectures directly with international capital markets.
The visiting Bangladesh delegation was led by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Professor Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir. During the summit, representatives signed a formal cooperation document establishing actionable protocols, including exploring the creation of one or more dedicated AI Centres of Excellence within the country. Plug and Play subsequently unveiled its strategic roadmap leveraging its extensive global network of institutional investors, multinational corporations, and tech startups to channel prospective capital inflows into Bangladesh's expanding engineering and digital landscape.
According to institutional sources, the blueprint identifies Bangladesh’s dense technical talent pool, specialized universities, High-Tech Parks, and developing domestic consumer base as vital pillars for sustained global integration. Central to the implementation is the proposed development of a Bangladesh Tech Center alongside the specialized AI Center of Excellence, designed to connect domestic software startups and scientific researchers with overseas venture networks. Targeted technical areas incorporate ICT and machine learning, semiconductor testing and packaging, consumer hardware, advanced manufacturing, light engineering, and precision pharmaceuticals.
The Bangladesh delegation welcomed the proposal, emphasizing the imperative to translate bilateral dialogue into commercially viable high-tech ventures capable of generating skilled employment, direct technology transfer, and export diversification across global value chains. Plug and Play Founder and CEO Saeed Amidi highlighted Bangladesh's competitive youth demographics and manufacturing potential as an ideal foundation for collaborative ventures in AI and advanced hardware. Project directors clarified that the prospective USD 500 million-plus figure represents a projected mobilization target rather than committed funds, which will materialize through phased corporate engagements, legal due diligence, and capital structuring.
The high-level Bangladesh delegation featured State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad, Protocol Officer-2 to the Prime Minister Kamrul Islam, and Deputy Press Secretary-1 to the Prime Minister Md Jahidul Islam. Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Tareq Md Ariful Islam and Consul General of Bangladesh in Los Angeles Kazi Muhammad Jabed Iqbal participated actively in the proceedings, with the Los Angeles Consulate General designated to oversee continuous bilateral implementation with relevant stakeholders.
