British Council CEO Visits Bangladesh

Strengthening educational innovation, tech-driven pedagogy, and digital literacy, British Council Chief Executive Scott McDonald arrived in Bangladesh for a high-level three-day visit spanning September 29 to October 1. The official tour across Dhaka and Rajshahi evaluates UK-Bangladesh strategic collaborations in school system modernization, English language tech, and youth digital empowerment.

On day one, McDonald met with Minister of Education and Minister of Primary and Mass Education Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon to discuss systemic education reforms and technology-enabled learning frameworks. He also engaged with leadership at 10 Minute School, Bangladesh’s premier EdTech platform, to scale digital English language learning tools and internationally benchmarked assessment tech nationwide.

Highlighting evidence-based primary education design, McDonald launched the 'English Teachers Needs for Professional Development Analysis Report' at Helenabad Government Primary School in Rajshahi, a data-driven initiative building on training programs for 1,700 Master Trainers.

In Rajshahi, he reviewed the 'Youth Connect: Digital Citizenship and Misinformation Resilience' program, which equips 120 students from Rajshahi University and Varendra University with digital navigation skills to combat online disinformation. He also inspected Durham University-backed tech preservation at Varendra Research Museum, attended Spardha Theatre's 'Still I Rise' performance, and concluded his visit in Dhaka addressing over 210 partner schools at the Principal's Meet 2026 and the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) assembly.
