An expulsion order issued against a schoolgirl for filming a TikTok video at a mosque in Dewanganj, Jamalpur, has been withdrawn. On Tuesday, 12 May, the school authorities took this decision following instructions from Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shah Jahurul Hossain.

Earlier, on Monday, 11 May, the ninth-grade student of Dewanganj Girls’ High School had been given a transfer certificate on charges of breaching discipline. The notice, signed by Acting Head Teacher Mashiur Rahman, spread widely on social media, sparking extensive discussion and criticism.

After the matter came to the attention of the UNO, he assured that the incident would be investigated. On Tuesday, following an application submitted by the student’s mother, the Acting Head Teacher was instructed to withdraw the transfer certificate. Subsequently, the school authorities revoked the expulsion order.

Acting Head Teacher Mashiur Rahman stated that prior approval from the President of the School Managing Committee and the UNO had not been obtained before issuing the transfer certificate. The mistake occurred due to haste. Later, the decision was withdrawn following the application from the student’s mother and the UNO’s directive.

UNO Shah Jahurul Hossain said that proper regulations had not been followed in issuing the transfer certificate. Upon realizing the matter, the school authorities corrected their decision.

It has been learned that a few days earlier, the student recorded a video for TikTok on the rooftop of Dewanganj Model Mosque while wearing her school uniform. After the video spread on social media, criticism began in the locality. To prevent similar actions that could damage the institution’s reputation, the authorities initially decided to expel her. However, as proper regulations were not followed in issuing the transfer certificate, it has now been withdrawn following the application by the student’s mother and the UNO’s instruction.
