Apple Releases iOS 27.0.1 to Fix Face ID and Restart Issues on iPhone 18 Pro

Apple has released a new software update, iOS 27.0.1, to address Face ID malfunctions and unexpected restarts affecting its recently unveiled iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models.

The update began rolling out worldwide on Monday following complaints from new iPhone users around the globe.

The problem primarily caused handsets to restart unexpectedly when Face ID failed to authenticate users accurately or encountered an error. Several customers reportedly remained unable to resolve the issue even after having their devices replaced through AppleCare.

Finally acknowledging the technical problem, the iPhone maker has released an emergency patch update as quickly as possible.

Fixes for Camera and Control Centre Glitches

In addition to resolving the Face ID issue, iOS 27.0.1 fixes several other technical problems and glitches. These include a camera issue on the iPhone 18 Pro that caused visible colour distortions, known as colour artefacts, when taking photos at 2x zoom.

The update also resolves a problem that temporarily caused the phone to become unresponsive when users tried to open the Notification Centre and Control Centre simultaneously. Users can download and install iOS 27.0.1 directly by navigating to the Software Update option in their phone’s Settings.

Security Patches for Older Versions and New Features

Meanwhile, Apple is offering iOS 26.7, which includes security features, for users who are still running older software versions or do not wish to upgrade to the latest iOS immediately.

However, users of the iPhone 17 and earlier models who do not upgrade to version 27 will miss out on modern features such as Apple’s new Siri AI and the interface’s Liquid Glass visual changes. Consequently, technology analysts are advising users to update to iOS 27.0.1 as soon as possible to ensure a seamless experience and full device security.
