Police Launch Tech-Based Investigation Over Viral Video
- Viral online footage shows two youths carrying an unconscious woman on a motorcycle at midnight
- Police initiate cyber and digital investigations utilizing vehicle registration numbers and video clips
- Concerns rise online as citizens emphasize using emergency digital services like 999 for quick action
Law enforcement agencies have launched a technology-driven investigation after analyzing video evidence gathered from online platforms regarding a suspicious incident on the highway. The matter came to light after images and videos circulated on social media showing two young men transporting an unconscious woman on a motorcycle at midnight on the Dhaka-Tongi highway. The viral footage triggered intense debate online over whether the woman was alive or deceased. Following the online outrage, police initiated digital tracking and technical investigation using the vehicle's registration number visible in the clip to identify those involved.
On Thursday, August 27, in the early hours, Mufti Monowar Hossain, the founding director of Madrasatul Madina-Bogra, shared the images on social media. Speaking to the media, he stated that he witnessed the scene from his car while returning to Bogra after completing his Umrah pilgrimage and captured the photos using mobile technology.
In his social media post, he wrote, "Is this a body being carried? If anyone from law enforcement is reading this, please take quick action. I followed them up to Tongi around 3:15 to 3:20 AM. It was 3:00 AM. I followed a motorcycle from Abdullahpur in Uttara to Tongi. A young man was riding it, with a young woman in the middle whose bare feet were dangling downward."
He further added, "A conscious or living person's feet wouldn't dangle like that. Another young man from behind was trying frantically to hold onto her, otherwise she would have definitely fallen. Seeing it from inside my car raised deep suspicion. I took close-up pictures and it appeared the girl was either unconscious or dead. I called 999 but could not connect. We witnessed this up to Tongi. I don't know the exact story, but I shared the pictures so clues could be found if something wrong happened."
In the comment section of the online post, an individual named Rakib Hossain claimed that he also spotted the youths near the Uttara Flyover around 3:00 AM, stating that it initially appeared to him as if a body was being transported. However, these social media claims could not be independently verified.
Regarding the technical and online investigation, Gazipur Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner of Police S. M. Shafiqul Islam told relevant sources that the department immediately took note of the event and initiated a probe. Efforts are currently underway to trace the individuals using the motorcycle registration number identified online, and further details will be disclosed later.
