Laldia Terminal to Use Advanced Technology
- Foundation stone to be laid on August 30

State Minister for Shipping, Roads and Bridges, and Railways Sheikh Rabiul Alam MP has said the Laldia Container Terminal at Chattogram Port will be developed using state-of-the-art technology. With Danish cooperation, the foundation stone of the terminal will be laid on August 30. The modern and environment-friendly green terminal will feature remotely operated cranes controlled from an office.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Denmark-based APM Terminals at the Ministry of Shipping in the morning on Thursday, 13 August.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam said the terminal’s cranes would be operated remotely from offices, which would further enhance operational efficiency and safety. He added that active participation of women would also be ensured in the project, opening new avenues for inclusive employment in the port sector.
He said the construction of the modern, internationally compliant terminal would significantly increase the capacity of Chattogram Port. The project would also play an important role in creating new employment opportunities, expanding trade and commerce, and strengthening the national economy.
During the meeting, the minister praised Denmark’s socioeconomic development and technological excellence. He sought cooperation from the Danish government and investors in developing and modernising Bangladesh’s port infrastructure.
The minister said Bangladesh offers a favourable environment for foreign investment and has significant investment potential in the port and shipping sectors. He assured foreign investors of maximum cooperation from the government.
He further said port infrastructure needs to be made more modern, efficient and capable in line with Bangladesh’s economic growth and expanding trade. The government is placing emphasis on ensuring the use of international experience and modern technologies in this regard.
Members of the APM Terminals delegation thanked the Bangladesh government for its cooperation regarding investment and support for port and terminal infrastructure development. They discussed ways to apply modern technology, management expertise and international experience in Bangladesh’s port sector, including the Laldia Container Terminal.
