Tk 320 Crore Tablets for Family Card

The government has approved the purchase of Android tablets worth Tk 320 crore 71 lakh 20 thousand to modernize beneficiary data collection, verification and management under the Family Card programme. The devices will be used for field-level data operations, with the tablets to be procured from Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited under the Bangladesh Navy.

On 12 August, Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase approved the procurement proposal at a meeting held at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

According to meeting sources, the tablets will be procured under the ‘Strengthening Social Protection for Improved Resilience, Inclusion and Targeting’ project, implemented by the Department of Social Services under the Ministry of Social Welfare, for the implementation of the Family Card programme.

Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, Sonakanda, Bandar, Narayanganj, under the Bangladesh Navy, has been recommended for the procurement.

The Family Card project is being implemented to make social protection programmes more effective and inclusive while improving the identification of genuine beneficiaries and modernizing data management.

The Android tablets will be used to collect, verify and digitally manage beneficiary information at the field level.

The same meeting also approved a proposal for additional work related to the relocation, reinstallation, commissioning and uninterrupted operation of the existing modular data centre, local area network, network infrastructure and related information technology infrastructure at Chattogram Customs House.

According to the proposal from the Internal Resources Division, the work will be carried out under Package-6 (Lot-1), with Spectrum Engineering Consortium Limited recommended as the contractor.

The original contract value was Tk 8 crore 68 lakh 47 thousand. A variation of Tk 2 crore 23 lakh 73 thousand 588 was proposed, raising the revised contract value to Tk 10 crore 92 lakh 20 thousand 588.

The committee also approved a proposal to invite a retender for a package under the project to upgrade the road connecting Lakshmipur, Noakhali and Feni districts with the National Special Economic Zone to the required standard.

The project is being implemented by the Feni Road Division under the Cumilla Road Zone, under the initiative of the Roads Transport and Highways Division.

The retender has been invited under Project Package WP-06 and Tender Package No. ADP/NSEZ/OSTETM/FRD/WP-06/2025-2026. The tender ID is 1245668.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase considered the overall aspects of the proposal and recommended it for final approval.
