After 36 consecutive days of complete academic stagnation, classes have partially resumed at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, academic activities commenced at 9:00 AM with the Urban and Regional Planning Department and continued until 11:00 AM.

Correspondent sources reported that out of 12 academic departments, only one held classes on the first day, with student attendance remaining sparse. Relevant authorities stated that while digital communication channels are coordinating student returns, full classroom strength is anticipated in the coming days.

Abdullah Talbi, a 4th-year student of the Urban and Regional Planning Department, shared that their class proceeded with limited attendance while scheduled laboratory sessions were postponed upon departmental approval. Department Head Fauzia Gulshana Rashid Lopa confirmed that classes were conducted for the 21, 22, and 23 batches, with higher participation from 21 and 22 batch students.

She expressed optimism that attendance would normalize by Thursday as outstation students return to resident halls. However, despite returning to classrooms, the core governance crisis surrounding the Vice-Chancellor's office remains unresolved. Students affirmed that their movement advocating for the reinstatement of former VC Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem will proceed alongside regular coursework.

To resolve the ongoing institutional deadlock, a 6-member delegation formed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) held meetings with faculty members and student representatives. The delegation is also scheduled to hold consultations with university officers and staff.

The standoff originally began on September 21 following the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, leading to a complete shutdown that halted administrative operations, digital learning portals, and examination schedules. University stakeholders expect the UGC delegation's recommendations to restore full administrative stability.
