To fast-track the country’s green energy transition, the Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) inaugurated a state-of-the-art Renewable Energy Training Center at its Purbachal campus. The center has been established under the German development cooperation project “Skills Development for Sustainable Energy Solutions (Skills 4SE)”.

The inauguration took place on 9 April, Thursday, with Muzaffar Ahmed, Chairman of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), attending as the chief guest. Officials stated that the center is designed to address existing technical skill gaps in the solar and wind energy sectors, thereby enhancing the nation’s institutional capacity. According to the Renewable Energy Policy-2025, this initiative will support achieving the target of 30 percent renewable energy in electricity generation by 2040.

The new center features specialized laboratories for renewable energy simulation and photovoltaic technology, as well as a modern meteorological center for wind energy resource assessment. Through the Training of Trainers (ToT) program, 52 trainers have already received specialized instruction, ensuring long-term capacity building.

BPMI Rector Md. Sabur Hossain, presiding over the event, noted that the combination of advanced technology and practical training will play a critical role in achieving national energy security and environmental goals. In a special address, Ulrich Klepman, Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy, emphasized that a sustainable energy transition is not purely technology-driven but depends heavily on human skill development. He added that enhancing the competencies of women and young professionals can make this progress inclusive and sustainable.

Attending representatives expressed confidence that the project will make a significant contribution to supplying skilled human resources necessary for building a clean and green economy.
