How to Set Your Favorite Song as an Alarm on iPhone

Choosing the right alarm sound can make a significant difference to how you start your day. An alarm that's too soothing may lull you back to sleep, while one that's overly harsh can ruin your morning mood. Many iPhone users find the default alarm tones repetitive or uninspiring. Fortunately, iOS allows users to set their favorite songs or audio clips as alarm sounds with just a few simple steps.

Below are two easy methods to customize your iPhone alarm.

Method 1: Use an Apple Music Song as Your Alarm

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can use any song from your music library as your alarm tone.

1. Add the song to your library

Open the Music app, find the song you want, and tap the "+" button to add it to your library.

2. Open the Clock app

Launch the Clock app and select the Alarm tab.

3. Choose your song

Create a new alarm by tapping the "+" icon or edit an existing one.

Tap Sound, then select Pick a Song.

Choose the desired song from your library and tap the "+" icon beside it.

4. Save the alarm

Return to the previous screen and tap Save in the upper-right corner.

Method 2: Use Any Audio File or Voice Recording

If you'd like to use a downloaded audio file, a voice message, or your own recording as an alarm, you can do so using a feature introduced in iOS 26.

1. Save the audio file

Store the desired audio file in the Files app.

2. Convert it into a ringtone

In the Files app, press and hold the audio file.

Tap Share, then choose Use as Ringtone.

If the audio exceeds 30 seconds, iPhone will prompt you to trim it before saving.

3. Select it as your alarm sound

Open the Clock app, edit or create an alarm, then go to Sound.

The newly created ringtone will appear in the ringtone list. Select it and save the alarm.

Important Note

When using the second method, the selected audio file temporarily becomes your phone's default ringtone.

After confirming that the alarm sound has been set successfully, you can change your default ringtone back through Settings. Doing so will not affect the alarm sound you've already configured.
