Minister Urges Stronger Online Awareness to Prevent Dengue and Mosquito-Borne Diseases

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stressed that raising public awareness remains the most effective way to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. He said the government has already formed a national committee to address the issue and called for expanding online awareness campaigns.
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the Workshop on Insights Dissemination of IUPHPS Project, organized under the Improvement of Urban Public Health Preventive Services Project (IUPHPSP) at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka.
He said the national committee on mosquito-borne disease prevention has already started its work and held its first meeting. He expressed hope that the IUPHPSP would play a significant role in strengthening disease prevention efforts.
Despite various interventions, mosquito larvae continue to breed, the minister said, emphasizing that public awareness is essential to address the challenge. He also called for broader online campaigns to encourage preventive behaviour among citizens.
The minister added that the Prime Minister places high priority on public health, sanitation and disease prevention. Under the government's leadership, efforts are continuing to build a cleaner and healthier Bangladesh.
Speakers at the workshop said the Improvement of Urban Public Health Preventive Services Project (IUPHPSP) is being implemented by the Local Government Division (LGD) with funding from the World Bank. The project aims to strengthen preventive public health services in urban areas and improve preparedness against dengue and other diseases.
Among those attending the event were Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Director General of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Inspection Wing Md. Mahmudul Hasan, NDC, IUPHPSP Project Director Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, and other senior officials.
