Education Minister emphasizes research and skilled textile professionals as Bangladesh welcomes the 52nd batch at BUTEX.

The Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) welcomed 630 newly admitted students of its 52nd batch during the orientation programme for the 2025-26 academic session at the university's central playground.
The event was attended by Education and Primary Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon as the chief guest. Special guests included Member of Parliament Sanjida Islam Tuli, Engineers Association of Bangladesh Convener Engineer Md. Shahreen Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, and Agriculture Association of Bangladesh Member Secretary Shahadat Hossain Biplob.
Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh Textile Engineering Division Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed (Selim) and ITET President Engineer Md. Enayet Hossain also attended as honoured guests.
Addressing the programme, the education minister said Bangladesh needs highly skilled textile engineers and researchers to strengthen its position in the global textile and apparel industry. He urged students to contribute to the country's economic growth and emphasized the importance of improving research standards at BUTEX.
He also said the government is prioritizing education, particularly technical education, to transform the country's large population into skilled human resources. Initiatives including curriculum reform, school meal programmes and measures to reduce academic delays are underway, he added.
Presiding over the event, BUTEX Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Julhas Uddin encouraged students to prioritize academics while actively participating in extracurricular activities to develop leadership, communication skills and professional competence.
He said the university aims to produce Global Graduates capable of competing in the international textile industry through research-based education, innovation and technology-driven learning.
Member of Parliament Sanjida Islam Tuli said the textile and ready-made garment sector contributes nearly 85 percent of Bangladesh's export earnings. She proposed establishing a modern textile research centre at BUTEX and introducing cadre-based recruitment opportunities for textile engineers.
During the orientation, students were introduced to the university's academic system, examination procedures, research and innovation activities, extracurricular programmes, campus regulations and career development opportunities.
