Cash, Phones Snatched in Daylight Attack near Ayesha Telecom
A shop employee was injured in a machete attack during a robbery in the Mohammadpur area of the capital, Dhaka, where assailants snatched Tk 200,000 from him. The victim, Hridoy (23), sustained injuries in the incident.
The robbery took place at around 8:30 am on Monday (May 4) in front of the ‘Ayesha Telecom’ shop in the Chandrima Housing area. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of Mohammadpur Zone under Tejgaon Division, Jewel Rana, confirmed the matter.
According to the victim, Hridoy, he was carrying Tk 200,000 in cash and three mobile phones while opening the shop in the morning. While having tea at a nearby shop, two individuals arriving in an auto-rickshaw sat beside him and started a conversation. At one point, they brandished a machete and attempted to snatch his bag. When he resisted, they attacked him with the machete, seized the bag, and fled the scene quickly.
Police said that several suspects have been identified after reviewing CCTV footage, and operations are underway to arrest them. Initially, two snatchers from the Dhaka Udyan area are being suspected, although the auto-rickshaw driver has not yet been identified.
