Hasnat Abdullah Publishes List of Eid Aid Beneficiaries in Debidwar
Hasnat Abdullah, Member of Parliament from Debidwar in Cumilla and a front-line coordinator of the July mass uprising, has published the list of beneficiaries for the distribution of Tk 10 lakh allocated by the government for Eid-ul-Fitr. On Tuesday, March 24, late at night, he also released the full list of recipients on his verified Facebook profile and a page titled “Jobabdihita” (Accountability).
In the post, the young leader assured that the repeated use of representative signatures in place of actual recipients’ signatures in some cases would not occur again. Presenting the list of government expenditure for Eid for the first time since being elected as an MP, Hasnat Abdullah stated that the assistance was distributed across 144 wards under 15 unions and 1 municipality in the upazila. However, for the protection of personal data, National Identity (NID) numbers and mobile numbers were concealed.
He stated that, based on a predetermined list, a total of Tk 10 lakh was distributed among 1,000 individuals, each receiving Tk 1,000 in cash. In addition, Eid items were directly delivered to 500 people.
Hasnat Abdullah said that since the list had been prepared collectively, the entire list was made public. He further noted that no political affiliation was considered in distributing the assistance, and the primary objective was to reach genuinely underprivileged individuals.
According to him, it was not possible to include all underprivileged people of the upazila within this assistance program. Only 1,000 individuals were covered under the government allocation, while 500 people received Eid items through personal initiative. Therefore, some disadvantaged individuals in different areas may still remain outside the coverage. He emphasized that the list was published to ensure transparency in the distribution of funds.
Earlier, on the night of March 10, Hasnat Abdullah went live on social media and provided a detailed explanation of development and administrative activities in his constituency.
