Bumble is set to introduce a new assistant powered by Artificial Intelligence. The announcement was made on Wednesday, 11 March, during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings release, according to a report by TechCrunch.

The AI assistant, named “Bee,” will learn about users through their personal chats, gathering insights into their values, relationship goals, communication styles, lifestyles, and dating intentions. Using this information, it will help find more relevant matches for users. Currently, Bee is in the pilot phase and undergoing internal testing. It will soon be launched in a beta version, said Bumble’s founder and Chief Executive Officer Whitney Wolfe Herd.

Initially, Bumble will introduce a new experience called “Dates” using Bee, where the AI will recommend potential partners for users. In the future, it may also be used to suggest date ideas or request anonymous feedback from previous matches.

In the “Dates” feature, Bee will first learn about a user through a private conversation. It will then identify two individuals with similar goals, values, and relationship intentions, and notify them within the app, explaining why they may be a suitable match for each other.

Bumble is launching the initiative as dating apps are seeing declining popularity among Generation Z users. Wolfe Herd said the company will experiment with removing the popular “swipe” method in certain markets. Additionally, a “chapter-based” profile format will be introduced, allowing users to connect with different aspects of each other’s lives.

The company also reported that its fourth-quarter revenue reached $224.2 million, while the average revenue per paying user increased by 7.9 percent to $22.20. Following the announcement, Bumble’s share price rose by nearly 40 percent.
