Amazon is forming a new Agentic AI group focused on developing artificial intelligence-powered agents that can automate various tasks for users, according to TechCrunch.

A report by Reuters states that Matt Garman, head of Amazon Web Services (AWS), informed employees via email that Agentic AI could create multi-billion-dollar business opportunities for AWS in the future. The project will be led by seasoned Amazon executive Swami Sivasubramanian, who previously oversaw the company’s AI and data teams.

With this move, Amazon joins the race to develop AI agents, where companies like Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce are already active participants.

Recently, Amazon introduced an updated version of Alexa, called Alexa+, which enables users to automate tasks such as booking Uber rides and browsing websites.

AWS may also develop AI agents for businesses, streamlining workplace operations and positioning Amazon in direct competition with Salesforce and Microsoft.
