Ownership of internet speed testing tool ‘Speedtest’ and website monitoring platform ‘Downdetector’ has changed hands. Technology media company Ziff Davis has sold its connectivity division under its subsidiary Ookla to Ireland-based technology consulting firm Accenture for $1.2 billion in cash, according to Engadget.

The deal was finalized on Tuesday, 3 March. Ziff Davis had acquired Ookla in 2014 for just $15 million. Driven by 5G expansion and increased internet demand during the pandemic, the connectivity division generated $231 million in revenue in 2025, accounting for 16 percent of Ziff Davis’ total earnings.

The proceeds from the sale will allow Ziff Davis to focus on its core brands—IGN, Mashable, and Everyday Health.

Accenture CEO Julie Sweet stated that the acquisition of Ookla will enable the company to provide customers with the “end-to-end network intelligence services” required for AI-driven transformation.

For now, Downdetector and Speedtest will continue operating as before. Both parties said the transaction is expected to be fully completed within the next few months.
