PM Tarique Rahman to Launch Family Card Program on March 10
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the Family Card program on March 10. The Prime Minister’s Press Wing confirmed the information on Monday, February 23.
In a message, the Press Wing stated that initially the card will be distributed on a pilot basis in one ward each across 13 districts of the country. According to relevant sources, the program will be expanded gradually in phases.
The Family Card program was one of the major electoral pledges of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). After forming the government, initiatives were taken on a priority basis to launch the program.
To ensure that the ‘Family Card’ reaches the extremely poor before Eid, the government formed a cabinet committee on February 19. According to a related gazette notification, the Government of Bangladesh has constituted the “Cabinet Committee on Family Card Distribution” to provide protection to marginal and low-income families. Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has been made the chairman of the committee. Under his leadership, the committee consists of 14 members.
The members of the committee are—Social Welfare Minister Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Local Government, State Minister for Social Welfare, Adviser Mahadi Amin, Adviser Rehan Asif Asad, the Cabinet Secretary, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Election Commission Secretary, Finance Secretary, Information Secretary, Local Government Secretary, Planning Secretary, and Social Welfare Secretary.
