AT&T Unveils Amigo Junior Devices for Child Safety
US-based telecommunications company AT&T is set to introduce smartphones and smartwatches specially designed for children aged 12 and under. The two devices—named the Amigo Junior Phone and Amigo Junior Watch 2—aim to ensure a safe digital experience for children while making parental supervision easier. The development was reported by GSMArena.
Developed in collaboration with Samsung, the Amigo Junior Phone is a custom version of the Galaxy A17 (5G). It comes pre-installed with the Amigo app, which allows parents to remotely monitor and manage their child’s phone usage. The app is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms.
Through the app, parents can track the child’s real-time location and receive instant notifications if the child moves beyond a predefined ‘safe zone’. Additional features include step counting, battery status monitoring, and the ability to set limits on screen time and app usage. A dedicated ‘School Mode’ is also available to restrict usage during school hours.
For parents who prefer not to provide a smartphone to their children, AT&T is offering the Amigo Junior Watch 2 as an alternative. While the smartwatch has limited features, it supports location tracking and allows calling and messaging to up to 30 pre-approved contacts.
Both devices will be available on a monthly installment plan of three dollars. AT&T has set the full price of the Amigo Junior Phone at $210, while the Amigo Junior Watch 2 is priced at $170. The company is marketing these new products with a strong focus on child safety and parental control.
