Gemini Gains Chat Import Feature for Easy AI Switching
A new feature has been added to Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Gemini. Users can now import their chat history stored in other AI chatbots, making it easier to switch AI services and move to Gemini, reports GSMArena.
By clicking the ‘Import Memory in Gemini’ button, a prompt will be generated, which users need to paste into their previous chatbot. After copying the response from that chatbot and pasting it into the text box of Gemini’s import tool, the information will be added to Gemini. As a result, Gemini will gain insights into the user’s preferences, interests, and past conversations, enabling it to provide more relevant and personalized responses.
Chat history can also be uploaded in ZIP file format. Gemini supports ZIP files of up to five gigabytes. However, it will not be able to import project files or any other attachments.
Analysts view this move by Google as a new strategy in the competition to retain AI chatbot users. Typically, switching from one AI service to another requires users to re-establish their past conversations and preference data. This feature of Gemini is expected to make service switching easier for users.
The feature, launched in early March, is currently available on the desktop version. Google plans to roll it out to the mobile app soon.
