JnUCSU launches pilot starlink internet at campus
The Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) has launched a pilot Starlink internet connection on campus in an effort to address the long-standing internet connectivity problems faced by students.
The experimental service was inaugurated around 2:00pm on Sunday at the university’s Teachers’ Lounge by JnUCSU Vice President Md. Riaz ul Islam.
Speaking at the inauguration, Riaz ul Islam said resolving the university’s internet crisis was a key commitment in the JnUCSU election manifesto. “Uninterrupted internet access has now become a basic necessity for students. Although the university has a contract with BdREN, we are not receiving the expected quality of service. As an alternative solution, we have therefore taken this pilot initiative with Starlink,” he said.
JnUCSU Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Masud Rana said the initiative was not a publicity exercise but a process of comparative evaluation. “We want students to understand, based on real experience, which service is more effective. The final decision will be taken by giving the highest priority to students’ needs,” he added.
General Secretary Abdul Alim Arif said internet connectivity is directly linked to students’ academic activities, research, and online education. “In the current situation, slow internet has become a major obstacle for students. Through this pilot initiative, we want to move towards a sustainable and long-term solution,” he said.
He further noted that discussions would be held with the university administration to implement the most effective technology in every classroom and laboratory if the pilot proves successful.
Representatives of JnUCSU at different levels, along with general students, were present at the event. Student leaders expressed optimism that the experimental initiative would pave the way for a sustainable and long-term internet solution for the campus.
