Shakib Khan’s ‘Ontorotma’ Debuts on OTT After Underwhelming Theatrical Run
The much-anticipated film Ontorotma, starring Dhallywood megastar Shakib Khan, premiered on the OTT platform iScreen at 3 pm on Thursday, 4 December. Although the Wazed Ali Sumon–directed film was released in theatres during last year’s Eid-ul-Fitr, it failed to meet expectations due to limited promotion.
The film features West Bengal actress Darshana Banik opposite Shakib Khan.
According to the director, Ontorotma presents Shakib Khan in a refreshing new style that adds a different dimension to the storyline. With its online release, viewers can now enjoy this romantic drama from home. Discussions and praise for the film have already begun circulating on social media.
The story follows Prothom (Shakib), who loses his parents to a terrorist attack in childhood. As he grows up, he becomes a figure of fear to those same criminals. Despite having money and power, his life remains lonely—until Rupkotha (Darshana) enters his life. Love, marriage, and companionship follow, but Prothom’s inner turmoil persists.
Filming was completed in 2021. Although the film was initially scheduled for release during that year’s Eid-ul-Fitr, it was unexpectedly withheld. Four years later, it was suddenly released during the 2025 Eid-ul-Fitr season. However, Cineplex removed it after the first week, and it did not attract significant audiences in single-screen theatres either.
Produced by Sohan Hossain under the banner of Taranga Entertainment, the film also stars Shahed Sharif Khan, Aruna Biswas, and Juna Chowdhury, among others.
