In an era driven by global technological advancements and research excellence, Bangladesh's leading engineering institutions face intense competition in international academic benchmarks. According to relevant sources, the 'QS Asia University Ranking 2027' was published on Tuesday, November 3, by the global higher education research organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Featuring over 1,720 universities across 26 Asian nations, the report revealed that Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) dropped 30 spots to rank 415th in Asia, down from 385th last year.

An analysis of performance metrics shows that CUET's overall score increased from 35.2 last year to 36.9, yet its relative ranking fell. The university's citations per paper score improved to 66.1 from 58.6, and papers per faculty stood at 36.1. However, its academic reputation score dropped to 33.9 from 37.3. Other indicators recorded scores of 54.8 in employer reputation, 35.5 in international research network, 28.5 in faculty-student ratio, 14.8 in staff with PhD, 2.8 in inbound exchange, 2.3 in international faculty ratio, 1.6 in outbound exchange, and 1.0 in international student ratio.

Despite the regional drop, CUET holds 12th position among all Bangladeshi universities and 3rd among engineering institutions, behind BUET (179th) and KUET (370th). In South Asia, CUET slipped four places to 101st position. When contacted for official remarks regarding the ranking evaluation, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director of CUET's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), did not respond via phone call. University of Hong Kong topped the Asian rankings this year, while the University of Dhaka led the institutions in Bangladesh.
