Most Evaly Customers Get Refunds Through Nagad, Tk 4.86cr Still Pending

A majority of Evaly customers who were awaiting refunds have successfully received their money through mobile financial service provider Nagad, following due procedures under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce’s technical committee on digital commerce.

When Evaly, the controversial e-commerce company, shut down in October 2021, more than Tk 17.69 crore of customers’ money was deposited with Nagad. Of this, over Tk 12.83 crore has already been refunded to 24,630 customers.

According to Nagad, refunds were carried out in phases after proper verification and with directives from the government. In 2023, the company refunded more than Tk 6.14 crore to 1,631 customers, while in 2024, an additional Tk 6.68 crore was returned to 22,999 customers.

The refund process, officials said, has been completed under the direct monitoring of the Ministry of Commerce’s technical committee on digital commerce to ensure transparency and accountability.

Currently, over Tk 4.86 crore belonging to Evaly customers remains deposited with Nagad. The company said it is prepared to return the remaining funds once instructed by the Ministry’s technical committee.

Speaking on the matter, Mohummed Shahin Sarwar Bhuiyan, Chief Commercial Officer of Nagad, said: “We have diligently and sincerely fulfilled our responsibility to return the money to Evaly customers awaiting refunds. We maintain close communication with the Ministry of Commerce. We assure that Nagad is always ready to refund the remaining funds kept with its system.”
