Organized as part of the 20th edition of the Bangladesh Astronomy Olympiad by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, the regional selection round was held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the premises of Sylhet Government Women's College in the city’s Chowhatta area.

A total of 300 students who pass the first round from across the country will compete in the second round at the national level. This will be followed by the third round, a closed camp, where the top 30 students will participate.

Following a final written test at the end of the closed camp, the top five contestants will be selected to represent Bangladesh at the Open World Astronomy Olympiad to be held in Russia from September 20 to 27. These five will also represent Bangladesh at the 29th International Astronomy Olympiad and the Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad.

Organizer Kalam Zubayer Nishad stated, “A total of 50 students from different schools and colleges of Sylhet participated in this event. A written test on astronomy was held for both the junior and senior groups, consisting of students aged 14 to 18. The 20 students selected from Sylhet will now compete in the second round in Dhaka.”
