Tesla Targets Tremendous Takeoff in India
Tesla is set to begin selling its electric vehicles in India soon, according to a report by Bloomberg News. After long-term planning, the company is finalizing preparations to open its first showroom in Mumbai, with deliveries expected to start as early as August, TechCrunch reported.
Within hours of Bloomberg’s report, Tesla launched a dedicated Twitter account for India under Elon Musk’s social media platform X. The account’s first post features an image of Mumbai’s skyline with the caption “Coming Soon.”
High prices and import duties may pose significant challenges for Tesla in the Indian market. Currently, importing vehicles into India attracts tariffs of around 70 percent. Tesla had previously proposed establishing a manufacturing plant in India, but that plan did not materialize.
