Dhaka University Students Demand KUET VC’s Resignation Amid Protests

Students of the University of Dhaka have joined the ongoing movement demanding the resignation of Dr. Muhammad Mashud, Vice Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). On Monday night (April 21), demonstrators expressed solidarity with the KUET protestors by burning an effigy of the VC during a rally held in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus at 10:00 PM.

Rezwan Ahmed Rifat, a student of the Department of Law, said during the protest, “At KUET, activists of BNP’s affiliated student organization not only wielded sticks but also fired multiple rounds at ordinary students. A VC who fails to protect students and allows outsiders to assault them on campus loses the moral and administrative right to remain in office.”

Another student, Raiyan Ferdous, added, “Just as a former corrupt vice chancellor of Dhaka University had to flee the country, the VC of KUET will also be forced to flee. The suspension orders and false cases against innocent students must be immediately withdrawn. Until all our demands, including the VC’s resignation, are met, our protest will continue.”

Md. Saifullah stated, “Despite a brutal attack on students by thuggish elements, the partisan VC remained silent. He took no action against the attackers. We urge the interim government to remove this VC and ensure justice for the students. Otherwise, we will organize a widespread movement involving students from across the country.”
