Following his extraction from a 28-hour blockade, newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam, explicitly denied issuing any statement or agreeing to conditions promising not to return to campus. On Tuesday evening (October 13, 2026), after being rescued under heavy security in the presence of Chittagong District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah and Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam, he addressed the media from Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Immediately following his evacuation from campus, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam was transported to CMCH and admitted for medical management. Physicians placed him under a mandatory 24-hour observation period to monitor his vital signs and systemic health. To evaluate his physical condition and reported cardiac discomfort, hospital authorities constituted a dedicated medical board, which will release a comprehensive diagnostic update on Wednesday following complete clinical evaluations.

However, the Vice-Chancellor refuted reports alleging he had issued an official statement or signed an agreement declaring he would refrain from entering the CUET campus in his official capacity.

The operational crisis escalated on Monday morning (October 12) when protesters issued a resignation ultimatum upon the new Vice-Chancellor's arrival on campus. Refusing to step down within the stipulated timeframe, he was blockaded inside Administrative Building-2. The immediate standoff concluded Tuesday evening as district administrative and police leadership facilitated his transfer to the hospital under police escort.

For several weeks, CUET has faced severe academic and administrative stagnation over vice-chancellor appointments. Joint protest programs spearheaded by students, the Teachers' Association, Officers' Association, and Staff Association continue to disrupt routine operations and engineering education at the university.
