Media’s Role in Startup Ecosystem Discussed at DIU Seminar
A discussion on the role of media in fostering an ecosystem for emerging entrepreneurs in Bangladesh was held on Saturday at Daffodil International University (DIU) in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The event, which focused on "The Role of Media Partnerships in Strengthening Bangladesh’s Startup Ecosystem," also included an iftar and networking session attended by founders and co-founders of 50 selected startups, according to the organizers.
During the seminar, speakers emphasized that the media should highlight both successes and failures in the startup ecosystem. They noted that while celebrating entrepreneurial achievements is crucial, analyzing failures and presenting them as learning opportunities can help guide future entrepreneurs. Additionally, the discussion highlighted the role of media in attracting local and international investors by providing in-depth coverage of startups, raising awareness, and shaping policies.
The seminar was chaired by AKM Amirul Islam, Managing Director of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA). Special guests included Hosne Ferdous Sumi, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank; Hasan Zakir, President of the Center for Technology Journalism (CTJ); Ruhul Kader, Founder of Future Startup; and Fariha Tabassum Haque, Program Coordinator at YY Ventures.
Although ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury was scheduled to attend as the chief guest, he was absent. The event was moderated by Manzur Mohammad Shahriar, Director of the Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Development (DEIED) project.
In his address, BHTPA Managing Director AKM Amirul Islam stated that the DEIED project is providing training, investment support, and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs across the country. "Under this initiative, 1,050 entrepreneurs nationwide are receiving training and mentorship at various levels," he added.
