Starlink Launches Testing of ‘Direct-to-Cell’ Satellite Service

Starlink has initiated the trial phase of its revolutionary ‘Direct-to-Cell’ satellite service. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk shared the update on Monday, January 27, via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

He stated, “Starlink’s new service will deliver internet connectivity directly from satellites to mobile phones, eliminating reliance on traditional cell towers.”

According to Starlink, the new-generation satellite technology can boost internet speeds up to 2 Gbps. This innovation promises enhanced internet services not only in rural and remote areas but also in urban regions.

Reports indicate that SpaceX has begun deploying Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell satellites via Falcon 9 rockets. Future satellite launches are planned using the Starship rocket. These satellites will connect to the global Starlink network through laser backhaul technology, ensuring fast and uninterrupted mobile connectivity worldwide.
