Book published on Pioneering Programmer Shahida Mustafiz
Shahida Mustafiz, a trailblazer in Bangladesh’s information technology sector and the country’s first female programmer, is the subject of a new book written by young author and IT journalist Rahitul Islam. The book, titled “The Hero of Information Technology: Shahida Mustafiz,” sheds light on various known and unknown aspects of her life. The book is published by Pratibhasha Publications.
This book is the third release in the “Heroes of Information Technology” series.
Author Rahitul Islam shared his thoughts on the book, saying, “Even today, fewer women enter programming in our country. Imagining the scenario nearly 50 years ago is beyond comprehension. At that time, no women worked in the IT sector, and no computer science courses were taught in the country’s educational institutions. Yet, people like Shahida Mustafiz did not give up. Unfortunately, the contributions of such people are slowly being forgotten in Bangladesh. I plan to publish a series about 10 individuals who contributed to the country’s IT sector. Through these books, the younger generation will learn how far Bangladesh’s IT sector has come. This series will serve as a historical record of the country’s IT development.”
Panth Deb Ray, the coordinator at Pratibhasha Publications, mentioned that Rahitul Islam began publishing books in the “Heroes of Information Technology” series some time ago. The third book in the series, “The Hero of Information Technology: Shahida Mustafiz,” focuses on Shahida Mustafiz, who was active in the IT sector for nearly 50 years. She was Bangladesh’s first female programmer, and her biography is an important document for future generations.
Previously, Rahitul Islam wrote and published two books in the same series, covering the lives of Abdullah H. Kafi and S.M. Kamal. The book “The Hero of Information Technology: Shahida Mustafiz” is priced at 250 Taka. The cover design is by Niaz Chowdhury Tuli.
