Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam entered his office by breaking the locks of the sealed Vice-Chancellor building at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). In response, students erupted in protests, escalating tensions across the campus. Protesting students issued an ultimatum giving the Vice-Chancellor until 12 PM to leave the building, threatening to declare the building vacant, lock the gates, and sever electricity and water lines if he fails to comply.

The tension unfolded on Monday morning (October 12) after the Vice-Chancellor arrived on campus in a microbus around 9:45 AM. Introducing himself merely as a ‘teacher’ at the main gate, Professor Shariful Alam proceeded to the administrative building and broke the locks to enter his office accompanied by certain individuals and local Chhatradal leaders. However, KUET branch Chhatradal President Wasif Rashed claimed they were not present during his entry, stating they only went to greet him after hearing of his arrival.

Protesting students strongly condemned the Vice-Chancellor's entry method. Afif Kabir, a third-year student from the EEE department, reiterated their single-point demand for reinstating former VC Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Md. Sayem, warning that the shutdown will persist until fulfilled. Sabiha Sabnam, a fourth-year Biomedical Engineering student, and Ahnaf Shahriar Arnob, a coordination leader from Mechanical Engineering, also strongly criticized the uninvited entry. Repeated attempts to reach KUET Teachers' Association Joint General Secretary Professor Samiun Bashir for comments went unanswered.

The crisis originated on September 21 when Professor Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem was replaced by KUET Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam. Rejecting the transition, students launched an ‘all-out shutdown’ on September 22 demanding Sayem’s reinstatement, supported by a section of teachers and staff. Although Professor Alam submitted his joining letter to the President and Education Ministry Secretary on September 24, mounting protests prevented him from accessing the campus until now. An interim routine charge given to Mechanical Engineering faculty Md. Arafat Rahman for October 11-12 was also rejected. With 21 days of continuous deadlock, classes, exams, and administrative operations remain paralyzed, stoking severe fears of session jams.
