Govt Focuses on E-Learning & Modern Tech to Bridge Education Gap in Hill Tracts
State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, has emphasized expanding e-learning, distance education, and modern technology to eliminate educational disparities between plainland and hill students. Speaking at the August 2026 Annual Development Programme (ADP) review meeting on Tuesday, September 29, he assessed progress across projects valued at BDT 964.64 crore for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
The government is giving paramount importance to expanding e-learning, distance education, and digital technologies to eliminate disparities between students in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and plainland regions. Concurrently, efforts are being accelerated to supply safe drinking water, solar electricity, eco-tourism, and sustainable infrastructure across the hill districts.
State Minister for CHT Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, highlighted these policy directives on Tuesday (September 29) during the Annual Development Programme (ADP) review meeting for August 2026, held at the CHT Complex on Baily Road, Dhaka.
The meeting evaluated the financial and physical progress of ongoing schemes under the BDT 964.64 crore ADP allocation (comprising GoB funds and project aid) for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
Speaking at the event, Barrister Mir Helal stated, "Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, initiatives have been undertaken to ensure hill students receive equal opportunities as those in Dhaka. The adoption of e-learning via projectors has already demonstrated notable progress in subjects like Mathematics, Science, and English."
Addressing gender-inclusive development, the State Minister called for urgent clean water infrastructure to relieve indigenous women from the hardship of collecting water over long distances. He also stressed establishing eco-friendly tourism, green jobs, solar panels in off-grid remote zones, and landslide mitigation projects without disturbing local biodiversity.
The meeting was attended by CHT Development Board Chairman Major General (Retd.) Anup Kumar Chakma, CHT Affairs Ministry Joint Secretaries Kongkon Chakma and Atul Sarkar, Vice Chairman Sheikh Saleh Ahammad, Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Ma Mya Ching, Rangamati Council Chairman Dipan Talukder, Khagrachhari Council Chairman Mra Sa Hoai Marma, and CHT Regional Council Member K. S. Mong, alongside senior ministry officials.
