Amid speculation about the launch of a new iPhone, US technology giant Apple has surprised the tech world by unveiling two new desktop computers. The company has introduced updated versions of its highly popular Mac Mini and powerful Mac Studio.

Although neither computer features major changes to its exterior design, Apple has made significant internal upgrades to improve processing performance. Both computers require separate keyboards, mice and monitors. However, there is a substantial difference between the two in terms of performance and price.

Mac Mini for Everyday Users and Professionals

The Mac Mini is a compact desktop computer designed for everyday use and general productivity. Measuring just 2 inches in height, the sleek computer is powered by Apple's new M6 chip, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process.

The base model comes with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. It is suitable for everything from everyday tasks to entry-level video editing.

For more demanding workloads, Apple is also offering a professional version of the Mac Mini powered by the M5 Pro chip. It features an 18-core CPU, 16-core GPU, up to 64GB of RAM and up to 8TB of SSD storage. This configuration is particularly well suited to 3D graphics and coding.

The starting price of the new Mac Mini has been set at $899, somewhat higher than that of its previous generation.

Mac Studio for Power Users and Heavy Workloads

For highly complex and demanding workloads, Apple has introduced the Mac Studio. Standing 3.7 inches tall and weighing nearly 2.75 kilograms, the substantial desktop computer is powered by the high-performance M5 Max chip.

Its base configuration features an 18-core CPU and 32-core GPU, allowing it to handle demanding tasks ranging from developing artificial intelligence models to intensive gaming.

For maximum performance, Apple is also offering a flagship version powered by the M5 Ultra chip. Built by combining two M5 Max processors, the chip features a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU, with support for up to 512GB of RAM and 16TB of storage. The system is primarily designed for animation studios as well as large-scale engineering and research work.

For connectivity, the Mac Studio includes four Thunderbolt 5 ports, two USB-A ports, 10-gigabit Ethernet and two USB-C ports on the front.

The Mac Studio starts at $2,499.
