Royal Enfield Launches Himalayan 440
- 443cc engine, six-speed gearbox
- Priced at Rs 2.29 lakh
- Bookings open in three colours
Royal Enfield has launched the Himalayan 440 in India as a more accessible adventure touring motorcycle. The new model gets a 443cc engine, a six-speed gearbox, long-travel suspension and an 800mm seat height. It is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh ex-showroom, positioning it below the more expensive Himalayan 450.
September 4, Friday, Royal Enfield officially launched the motorcycle at its first Himalayan Basecamp event in Ladakh. The launch also marks 10 years of the Himalayan nameplate. Initial units feature a special 10-year anniversary badge. Bookings opened on the same day through authorised dealerships and the company’s official website.
The Himalayan 440 is offered in three colours: Sela Black, Mustang Brown and Nelong White. All three colours carry the same price.
Engine and Performance
The motorcycle uses a 443cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, SOHC, air-cooled, fuel-injected long-stroke engine. It produces 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. A six-speed gearbox is standard.
The additional gear is aimed at making highway and long-distance riding more relaxed. The Himalayan 440 follows the simple and practical character of the earlier Himalayan 411 while adding mechanical updates.
Adventure Hardware
The Himalayan 440 uses a half-duplex split-cradle frame. Up front, it gets a 41mm telescopic fork with 200mm of travel. The rear uses a linkage-type monoshock with 180mm of travel.
Ground clearance stands at 220mm, while seat height is 800mm. The motorcycle gets a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. It also comes with switchable dual-channel ABS, with the rear ABS designed to be disabled for off-road riding.
Touring and Navigation
The motorcycle features a new semi-digital instrument console and Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation system. It also gets turn-by-turn navigation, an LED headlight and a USB Type-C charging port.
A 15-litre fuel tank supports longer rides. Buyers can also add official accessories such as hard panniers, a top box, handguards, touring seats and engine guards.
The Himalayan 440 is aimed at riders who want a simpler and more affordable adventure motorcycle for touring, mountain roads and light off-road use without moving up to the more expensive Himalayan 450.
